Joana David Avritzer joined the Economics Department of ¾«¶«AV in 2021, after completing her PhD in Economics at the New School for Social Research. She is originally from Brazil, where she completed her BA at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and her MA at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
Her primary fields of research are heterodox macroeconomics, demand-led growth and income distribution. She is currently working on incorporating household debt dynamics into a post-Keynesian growth model to explore the relationship between growth and income distribution.
She has been teaching courses in Macroeconomics, Financial Markets and Institutions, Monetary Policy and the Fed Challenge and Growth Theories.
